A 2010 Beginning

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already 2010! Happy New Years, everyone! Thanks for all the love and support you’ve given RD over the past year. It has been quite a ride, filled with ups and downs, but we’ve made it another full year!! The Christmas event that I’ve joined ended a few days ago, and I wanted to point out the gifts that I’ve received. Rae from Aein made me 2 wonderful bookmarks, and 3 pretty link buttons that are posted on the Linkage page. She also created this lovely sign for me to post up on Jan 1st:

On a side note, I’ve been working hard on a new layout for RD. I know it’s been quite a long time since there’s been any sign of change, but I am trying to manage with school as well. So, I have been taking it easy and putting a lot of effort on this new layout whenever I have some free time. Unfortunately, I didn’t expect I would be so busy this winter break, so I could’t get the layout up for New Years. Expect a layout change in the next few weeks though! Here’s a preview:

The layout is tentatively called Bittersweet World and features Nanali from Code Geass. I changed her hair colour a little bit to suit the colour scheme I had in mind. The images I found of her are remarkably beautiful, so I was inspired to create a layout that featured her.

Finally, a graphic update. Small, but I needed an avatar to update with!

Announcement: I’ve noticed a lot more people are subscribing to the RSS feed. WIth all the new technology you can use to stay up-to-date, its hard not to please my visitors! I’ve officially started a twitter account for Reminiscent Designs. Hopefully this will motivate me to keep RD frequently updated and to check in on my visitors. Follow xreminiscent on Twitter! There’s not much tweeted yet, but I’m hoping that will change as the year progresses. Mainly, this twitter account will be used to promote RD’s content and to notify my followers of my latest updates!

Hey everyone! It’s been quite a while since I’ve last updated. University has taken over my online life, but I do not want to give up on RD. I’m still sorting through emails, so please be patient if you applied for Link Exchange! I really appreciate all the nice comments left from last update and all the emails I’m getting. Its unfortunate that I can’t dedicate more time to RD. I did manage to have some free time to design 2 new avatars, so do enjoy them.

Finally, back after a long break! I’ve taken a short hiatus with RD mainly because I’m working hard on 2 other websites. When these projects are completed, I will probably have more time to update. Recently, I read this amazing fantasy series by Cassandra Clare called The Mortal Instruments. Now, I’m hooked on the characters, plot, setting, etc. I’ve made a fansite dedicated to the author and her wonderful books – (not to mention there’s a MOVIE and a FOURTH BOOK in the works!) It’s not Anime related, but I’ll advertise it here in case some of you are interested. The fansite is called Nephilim Glamour – let me know what you think, or if you’ve read the books! As well, I’m working on Doob&Tell – a group blog I’m starting with a few of my friends. I’ll post the link to that once things are up and running.

Well, it has been a few weeks since I’ve updated, and I don’t have a lot to show for it. I’m currently busy working on my blog, which should be opened within the next week or so (I’m really excited to finally be done with the project!).

Also, it has come to my attention that voting for Secret Wishes: Featured Site Contest has begun. Show some love for RD? Thanks for everyone who have voted for me already, it really means a lot to me that you are giving me so much support. The new graphics were for another contest I entered. Recently, I have been working on a group blog with my friends called “Doob and Tell”. The layout is still a work in progress, but I am really excited to put it all together and get the site running. I might have to abandon Timeless Art.Blog since I already have a DeviantArt account with my artworks. This is all just in the working stage, so I’m not sure what my final decision will be. Although I am in search for a subdomain hosting for the new site. Any hosting offers, please contact me!

The Sweet Far Thing

Welcome to the not-so-new, but greatly improved Reminiscent Designs! It is about time I got a new layout up. Version 07 is called The Sweet Far Thing inspired by Libba Bray’s Gemma Doyle Trilogy. No, this is not an Anime, but rather a 3-part novel series. When I finished reading these books, I was motivated to make a new layout reflecting the theme of female empowerment and the magic of the Realms found in the story. The image chosen was from an Artbook, Kingdom of Warriors, found at AnimeArtbooks and is not meant to represent any particular character from the book. I stuck with a creamy beige and brown colour scheme again since it suits the time period of the novel and I like how the browns and reds compliment each other.

Recently, I have had some problems with my domain and hosting company. I am unsure if these problems have been fully resolved since I have not heard back from them in a few days, yet I am not experience any downtime or difficulties. This is just a warning that my site may or may not be functioning properly the next week or so. If it becomes a serious problem, I might cancel my contract and apply for subdomain hosting to save my website! However, as long as the site is working, enjoy the new additions!

There have been some minor changes to the Textures section of the site. I began offering Icon Textures lately, but they all are Fractal designs. I was experimenting with normal icon texture designs and they turned out really nicely. Thus, I have decided to add a new section of Icon Textures that are normal and the Fractal icon textures will now be found under the “Light Textures” category when you visit the Textures page.

I have been trying to clean out my Inbox full of Affiliation and Link Exchange requests. If you have received a reply from me, then your link has been added. If you did not, please take a minute to re-apply, I might have missed your email. I am no longer looking for any affiliate requests. The position is currently given as an invite-only, but I am considering link exchange requests, so do apply!

Hey! Another quick graphic update for you. Exams are looming closer, but school work has slowed down a bit. Next week, though, I’ll be piled with culminating projects worth a big chunk, so I shall hold off updating for a while. Also, a warm welcome to my newest hostee, Mizuro. Twilight “New Moon Movie Poster” Contest

On a happier note, I entered in a contest at HisGoldenEyes.com for a fan-made “New Moon Movie Poster”. To the right is a preview of my entry (click for full view). The other entries look pretty good as well. My number is #8. I feel that my poster is quite deserving of a vote since it really captures the emotion and relationships between the main characters: the frustration and loneliness of Bella, the tension between vampires(Edward) and werewolves(Jacob) and the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob. The contest voting has ended, thanks for voting! I shall see if I am the winner (I havent heard from the host yet, but I will soon enough). It is amazing what kind of support RD’s visitors have for me! I am so lucky to have you guys!

True Colours

Another short update. Since I had 4th period off school, I decided to do a little bit of graphic designing for the site. I really miss designing, especially layouts and textures. Summer is fast approaching, and I plan to do a lot more with RD and my blog. A few friends of mine are planning to create a PhotoBlog with me, so watch out for one of those in the future. So many new ideas are coming to me recently. It must be all the nice sunny weather. Enjoy the small additions – more to come.

Still revamping my blog/art site. Please be patient. I am also currently looking for any blog buddies out there who would want to link to Timeless. Feel free to leave a comment to let me know if you are interested! Another thing on my mind is whether or not I should set up a tagboard for the site? Its hard for me to keep track of who tags a note since my comments from my updates are emailed to me. Though many are asking me to get one for convenience of leaving a message. What do you guys think? Should RD have a tagboard/shoutbox or would update comments work just as well?

I was lurking Facebook, when I decided to join a group where I could find graphic webdesigners, like myself, but was disappointed to discover there were no groups of that nature. So, I have taken the initiative in starting a Facebook group for all of us graphic designers! Please join if you have Facebook! I would love to see this group be a portal for some really great designers!!

EDIT//MAY17 – Please welcome Charlotte and Rogelio of ChanLu Designs as my newest affiliate! Their site has some seriously awesome graphics, so go check it out. Also, I have been working these past 48 hours on a new look for RD. Yes, I am talking of a new layout skin for the site! I’m really excited about this one since it combines my newer techniques in designing and coding with my old style. I’m not sure if you’ll notice or not, but I think I’ve gotten a hold on this blending of styles into something new of my own! So, watch out for that in the near future.

Happy Easter! I hope you all enjoyed the Easter holidays last week. What a hectic couple of months! School has definitely kept me busy. I am proud to say that I received offers into the Interior Design and Architecture programs at the universities that I applied for. Currently, I am waiting for one more offer (the one I really want), so let’s keep our fingers crossed. I am terribly sorry for neglecting the site since January. It does seem quite unfair to the visitors who keep checking back to stumble upon something new occasionally. Well, lucky you, since I have some time to update! No layouts this time, but I’ll keep working on that.

Right now, I am revamping my blog, Timeless Art.Blog, and I have a few new tutorial ideas for RT. Everything is just so busy, I will try and get those done within the next few months. I really want to update RD with a new site layout, so I will begin to sketch out a few ideas when I have time. In the summer, I plan to revamp RD completely! I have so many plans and ideas to expand upon, I just wish I had the time. For now, avatars and textures are all I can manage. If you are wondering about the title, the line “your like is ultraviolet” is from a song, Ultraviolet by the Stiff Dylans off the “Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging” Movie Soundtrack. One of my textures reminded me of the song!

Also, give another warm welcome to Emily of Elysium Phoenix Designs. EPD is my other new affiliate. The site is new, but I see a lot of potential with it! Emily’s main layout is stunning and very elegant. Her use of colours, contrast and patterns blend in well to make beautiful graphics worth checking out!

On another note, I am sorry to say that I am no longer accepting affiliation at the moment. I love my affiliates and I don’t think I have room for more. Maybe on a later date, you can try and apply. A Line in the Sand

Hey everyone! Good to be back and finally updating. I should be studying for exams, but since I don’t have an exam to write today, I wanted to update RD. Layouts and possibly new brushes will be added after I am finished my exams, so look out for those. For now, enjoy the new avatars and icon textures. If you are interested in how I make my avatars, I might post a short tutorial on RT, giving you designers out there a glimpse of my discovered techniques. Also, thank you to all those who have granted me a happy new year and have given me presents! Maybe I will set up a gifts page if I have time.

On another note, my “IP ban” has been lifted. For the past month I could not access my site, and only a few weeks ago, it has been working for me. I concluded that someone on my laptop was trying to hack into my account and it blocked my IP for a month. Oh well, I will solve the mystery of who it was soon enough. For now, I am just glad I can finally update!

As for link exchange and affiliation requests – I am terribly sorry for replying late (if you even did receive my reply?). I have been neglecting the site for a long time, so my inbox piled up and I could not sort through the requests. Most of the sites that have applied a few weeks ago are now inactive, and I might not receive a reply back in a while. Let it snow, baby; Let it reindeer

It’s been a long time since I updated RD. Don’t worry, I haven’t been MIA because I don’t feel like updating. It’s just my IP address apparently blocks my site for some reason? If you have any suggestions on how to fix that, please comment. I’ve contacted my host and if you guys can comment, then it must be my Internet connection. We recently upgraded to using wireless, so that might be where I can start to figure out this problem. For now, I have to access my site through a proxy server – which means that I can’t use FTP. What I can update are the avatar and texture databases. I hope you enjoy the new additions.

Awake

Yet another avatar update. Lately, I have been quite busy with school, so I was only able to create a few graphics for this update. My brother and I started re-watching Fate/Stay Night, so you can guess what inspired this update! I have been planning on watching Witchblade – the anime version. I have read the comics and even watched a few episodes of the TV Series, so I am curious as to how the anime version will turn out. Anyways, going back to my graphics update – I have been meaning to code a few new layouts for the database, but I have lost my motivation! Maybe, I will find it sometime soon…but, until then, the updates will stay small. I am working on a few new icon textures as well – they’re really fun to create! On a last note – I would like to personally introduce my newest affiliate: Fiona and Kikyou of Komet Tails Designs ! I am sure you have visited KTD in the past, as have I, and have adored their graphics. It was a shock to have received their affiliation request, which I have gladly accepted. Please pay them a visit when you have a chance.

I can bet that you are just as excited as I am to see something new on the updates page! Lately, I have been busy with school and other offline activities, so I find it hard to update regularly. I am sorry for replying late to everyone who contacted me. In the future, I will try my best to keep up with my emails. To be completely honest, Twilight has taken over my life…so I might be switching this site to provide graphics other than Anime. I do have future plans for adding tutorials to RT, since many of you are curious as to how to set up an Avatar Database. I do encourage you to experiment though. An Avatar Database is only a variation of the Layout Database tutorials that I have posted. Nonetheless, I will see what I can do about writing a series on it. In the meantime, enjoy the new graphics added. I had fun making them, so I hope you have fun using them.

The Same Lucky Star

It has been a while since I updated. School, for me, has been quite hectic. There is so much I want to do in the online world, but homework, extracurricular activities and AP Art has been eating up a lot of my time. Nonetheless, because I have a 4 day weekend, I made a few new additions for RD. I still have layouts to code, but because they are abstract, I might not include them here. Another Beginning

Finally, Summer Vacation is coming to an end for me. I am so glad that I got RD back up these past two months! I plan to keep this site active throughout the year, but with little updates now and then. This is *officially* the last update of my summer, so I promise it will be a good one. For starters, I made some drastic changes to the Textures section of this site. I now offer Icon Texture Sets since I have been on a craze making them lately. I recently downloaded this cool Fractal program, and I am really liking what it adds to my textures.

Dreaming in Colour

Lately I have been meaning to code some new premades, but I just can’t seem to find the time. School will be starting soon, so I should get to work on coding before I become extremely busy. Which brings to my attention that I might not update RD as often as I would like, but I do wish to keep this site active. On top of keeping RD from disappearing, I still have to add a few new tutorials to RT. Wow, I am going to be quite busy the next 7 days. If I am not overloaded with work already, I joined staff at Kuusou, and I hope I won’t regret it. //Edit: Added RSS Feed for updates!

Currently, I am working on putting together two contests for the remainder of the year. One will be called LOLLAex hosted by myself and Sugee. Right now, we are deciding it will be a tournament with 3 rounds of graphic-designing. It is still currently in planning stage, so more updates on that later on. The other contest I will be hosting is called Crystal Snowflake. It will be a layout contest hosted by myself and Takara. Prizes might include hosting, custom Wordpress theme, graphic packages, advertising and more (once we think of more to add). Also, Crystal Snowflake will be the first contest to officially be hosted at my new -in progress- contest site called Exceptional which I will be running with Takara. The site is aimed to host large contests with bigger prizes and smaller one on one tournaments between other graphic designers. This is still in the creation stage, so I just want to advertise it a bit right now. We hope for this site to be very successful!

Just a quick update…I am so happy that RD is getting a lot of traffic again. When it was dead, I really missed interacting with my visitors. Thank you for everyone who commented last time. Hey, I’m back updating again! I have been working my bottom off trying to get my tutorial website opened, and I finally finished it today! New layout, new tutorials and new resources…everything has been updated as well as the content management system (Wordpress works wonders!). For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, I am referring to Reminiscent Tutorials – my tutorials website. I figured that I would have too many tutorials to include within RD, so last summer, I made a whole site dedicated to offering some of my visitors tutorials and resources that can help them better improve their web design skills. I am really proud of getting it up and running this summer, so do check it out!

I am so glad for the great response RD received with the reopening of the website! Thank you all who have written me comments about the new layout. It felt good to read your compliments and enthusaism. My inbox is beginning to fill up with many link exchange and affiliation requests. I am sorry to have turned down a few hopeful people who applied for affiliation. However, I have many new link exchange sites that have been added. A warm welcome goes out to my newest affiliate, Calisa of Kakumei Designs. Calisa is a friend of mine and a fan of RD. Her designing abilites have been improving over the years and I believe she has created a wonderful website for her visitors. Please check out her website if you have some time. Edit// Please give another warm welcome to Nika of NQ Designs, a new addition to my affiliate family.

On to the new additions…I am pleased to inform you that I have updated not only my linkage section, but the goodies as well. The new additions inlcude:

Metamorphosis

Hey everyone! I finally finished revamping the site – new layout, new graphics, new everything (more or less). Since I have spent a great deal of time recoding the site and pruning out some graphics, I would like to share this “metamorphosis” and what I have done with the site. First off, I would like to thank the people who have encouraged me to keep RD opened and who supported me during the revamp. I was beginning to give up, but I decided that I had a lot of visitor who greatly appreciated my works here, so I will continue providing you with content until I lose interest, which will probably not be for a while. Anyways, enjoy RD while it lasts.

The new updates, which I know you are excited to see, include:
» Designs – (Div) Love Whisper of the Flowers
» Avatars – 1 Fate/Stay Night, 2 Earthian, 2 Naruto Shippuuden
» Brushes – Delicacy; Brushstroke 1, 2 & 3
» Textures – 5 full-size textures

I have cleared out a lot of my graphics as you can tell. I am willing to donate a few of my old graphics with credit for creating them so as to not be a waste. Anyways, with the existing graphic/resource categories, I have deleted a few items that I thought were outdated and may not showcase my best work. Also, I have made room for more additions, which is always a good thing! Look out for new graphics and resources soon.

To get some technical aspects aside, I reorganized the site pages. Instead of having long navigation sidebar, I decided on using a simple horizontal navigation at the top. I figured my pages will not be too long, and I can fit more without a side navigation! I was going to keep Cutenews for updating the site, however, it gave me problems with spammers and my comments were always disappearing on me. As a solution, I have learned to code Wordpress as my CMS and I am quite satisfied. It gives me way more flexibility and it is super easy to customize. I rewrote the About section, since it needed some rework. The Site page is reduced greatly (I got rid of FAQ) and it includes some new information about donations. The Terms of Use have been edited. The contact page is shortened. I fit all links in, links out, credits and buttons on one page under Linkage. Lastly, a Network page has been revised showcasing my other websites and the sites hosted by RD. The rest of the coding for the content is unique for its own purposes. It may not seem like a lot, but coding takes time. I hope there are no errors, but please do report it if you see any.

As for linkage. I do have affiliation open. I was terribly sorry to have resigned from affiliation with most of my previous affiliates, however I have regained 3 back. I would like to give a warm welcome to a new affiliate: Sugee of Lightly Ardent (site currently on hiatus). Link exchange is also open, so feel free to apply using the contact form.

Now that RD is finished, the only other site I need to finish revamping now is Reminiscent Tutorials. I ams orry for those who have been waiting on me to complete the revamp, however I am running into some problems with the coding, so please bare with me. I will try to get it up and running before I leave for New York later this month. For now, I hope you like the improved RD. Feel free to leave a comment on this post since I do not have a tagboard up.
